For beginners, classes are held in English and Croatian thus facilitating learning at a maximum pace.

Learning Croatian as a foreign language or as a second language is directed towards:

• foriegn and Croatian citizens whose native language is not Croatian,
• ambassadors and consulates as well as representatives in embassies and other organisations,
• foreign students
• and all those who want to improve their knowledge of Croatian.

These language courses are for all age groups. The language groups are divided into younger and adult classes.

Learning Croatian includes various levels of familiarity with the language - from starter to advanced level.

If you're a beginner, we'll use literature that's tailored to the level you're learning. Basically, elementary textbooks.

Begineers are taught by:

• constructing a useful vocabulary based on items and pictures
• listening and repeating exercises
• comprehension of reading material
• being able to answer questions in Croatian
• being able to hold basic discussions in the Croatian language.

For instance, the lecturer will read a passage of text, oftening pausing and explaining the works and concepts, whereas at higher levels, the Croatian language teacher will read the text without pausing and practice comprehension with the students.

If the students exceed an elementary of beginner's, with the knowledge they've been able to previously acquire, they're taught to analyse texts and carry out various forms of conversation with the aim of improving communication.

Subject topis are treated according to the language level with the main purpose of::

• adopting new knowledge and new words,
• extending one's vocabulary,,
• learning Croatian phrases,
• sentence structure (syntax)
• job or business-related language tools that will be of interest to particular students

Lectures cover oral and written exercises specific for the particular language level. A great emphasis is placed on conversation skills and the ability to speak Croatian and write in Croatian.

The tutorials and exercises include:

• reading,
• writing simpler texts,
• oral/verbal presentations given by individual students,
• discussions led on various topics, etc..

Lectures at Nitor as carried out in the form of

• individual classes, a one on one approach;
• group classes, up to 7 students attending each class and therefore creating a real learning environment.
